| Remember this? from 1981... |
Some of the advice was timeless, and some of it is quite dated, but it was a delightful blast from the past to thumb through this again...
My favorite bits from this book were always the "15 ways to wear a ______". Below is my take on the 15 ways to wear a tee shirt. Note that I've not bothered with the last 3 suggestions, as 2 of them were to wear a tee shirt over a swimsuit, and the last idea was to wear tee shirts for sleeping. I think you don't need to see that one illustrated...

OMG...I have that book! And I loved it way back when. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I got some great ideas. Is that Gia Carangi on the cover? She was such a unique model from that era and paved the way for the supermodels of the 80's and 90's.
ReplyDeleteGood eye - that is indeed Gia - this book was really hard to get for a while, when there was a big demand for any images of her!
ReplyDeletebig hug,
Vivienne
Those mocs and socks on the cover! How fashion evolves.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tee shirt ideas. Tees are so often pushed aside, but they are such a versatile item.
You are quickly becoming a morning treat along with coffee from a favorite small independent in my office neighborhood that specializes in french press coffee (it is amazingly good)...sort of a connection there...your posts are also a bit French, smart, unique, thoughtful....opposite of over-produced over-priced low-quality high-quantity stuff that we are drowning in these days.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me that with a bit more care and attention...it is possible to have a classic look that is ageless and modern at the same time. Your curated collections are full of invaluable tips and wisdom. Wish I could have you come spend a day or two in my closet! Thank you so much. Have a great weekend! Dorothy (and thanks for the VFiles doc too!)
Thanks for reminding how versatile a t-shirt is. I often forget about adding this basic to my closet when shopping.
ReplyDeleteGret post with great ideas, I saved on my inspiration files.

I only discovered your site two days ago and can't stop looking through it. It's absolutely wonderful! Is this where I request a wardrobe for a 62 year old, slim warm autumn travelling to Scandinavia, Russia and the Independent States in July and August on an organised coach tour with stopovers in Bangkok? My style words would be elegant, modest, classic and feminine.
ReplyDeleteStein got a book published showing women they could wear t-shirts with pants and skirts, or under a shirt-dress? I do not find that inspiring, but then, maybe would have flipped the pages in 1983.
ReplyDeleteIn the nearly thirty years since its publication, we have come farther, in a great part thanks to blogs like yours.
This book has some great reviews on Amazon. I'd love to see it (it's only a a penny plus shipping). BUT NO ROOM FOR ANY MORE BOOKS.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed this post and I always get a lot of inspiration from your posts. I love your collages and how conscious you are about consuming.
