  1. I love, love, love this...with the peach/coral as the splash accent. This works for me! While the clothes at Bean's don't seem to fit me the way I'd like, it's very easy to recreate the base layer of pieces from other sources. And these accents and accessories are just the ticket to getting the look 'right on' for a casual summer wardrobe. This is the direction I'm going to be going this summer: I'll literally be living in from a suitcase as our house is going under a major renovation--and we'll be 'camping' in the den...the one untouched room...and the one without ample closet space. Great plan!

  2. What Ellen said... I can't tell you how often I opened your blog and saw something I would have never put together AND already is in my closet. I may follow 333 some day, but right now I am have too much fun shopping my closet while having no difficulty with the 'no-shopping-for-a-year'. Thanks.

  3. I have to agree that this is just wonderful. I really do love the peach/coral accent and it is great that it is so easily found in the stores right now. I have always had an easier time buying clothing for cooler weather and my summer wardrobe has never really been what I would like it to be. I was very pleased to see your posts on the Whatever's Clean wardrobe as it does present a good, basic starting point. I struggle with buying basics, so having a plan is really helpful. I do love L.L. Bean but I agree that the pieces you put together could easily be found at other retailers, perhaps even one's own closet!

  4. This is great. I already have many of the basic "Whatever's Clean". Your post today helped me look at what I could do to spiff it up. I'll be buying shoes and accessories. It seems simple but I just didn't get it until now.

  5. This is basically my summer wardrobe with some great ideas for accessories. I will probably find some interesting shoes and bags in Paris.

    1. I wash all my whites and use borax not bleach. I use about a half a cup per load along with my regular detergent.

  7. Reading your blog, I feel like I've learned much better how to accessorize; in particular, how to keep a common thread of color between different items going.

Thanks for all your work you do on here!

  9. Wow, thanks - I'm "collecting" clothes for a Paris trip this summer and have been looking for a casual, straight-ish and comfortable skirt to go with tees and loafers/sandals - the LL Bean pocket skirt fits the bill! I'm doing navy/dk khaki/white/coral and the skirt fits in perfectly with what I've collected so far. You're brilliant!

  10. I appreciate that you use LLBean because it is about the clothing....not the model. It makes for a cleaner understanding of what to choose. I also applaud you for creating such a neat blog. It is not my style. At all! But I come back and read it every day, because your simple approach is easy to apply to my own personal style.
Please don't ever feel that you should try to please everyone. If you can please a leather/chains/stud wearing young lady with purple hair, tattoos, and facial piercings (that would be me, by the way) then you know your blog has mass appeal. The common wardrobe and whatever's clean can easily be translated into other style choices. I have never been less intimidated by packing or refining my wardrobe. All thanks to you.

    1. consider yourself hugged - you understand what I'm trying to do! There was a time when I wore multiple multiple earrings, leggings, Doc Martens, and oversized-sweater. And I was as cute as button... There are themes and ideas that pretty much anybody can use at any point in their life, regardless of their personal style.
      thanks SO MUCH!!

    2. A., I think you've really gotten to the heart of what Janice does so brilliantly. It's mathematical, pure and simple, open to many permutations. If you read daily and I read daily (I'm just about 70, classic/country, pretty neutral, with very distinctive personal accessories and jewelry), then she has succeeded, don't you think? And as for packing...genius, no?

  11. Love the posting. Especially the last one with the D&G sunglasses and the keds. Has anyone tried the white Tees from LLBean? Are they thick enough that everyone else does not see your bra or lack thereof? I love white tees but have not been able to find one that wasn't almost sheer for several years.

  13. Perfect for our hot humid long Aussie summer!
Accessories that are in good condition, not necessary expensive, appropriate for the weather-that it makes all the difference.
This post my favourite to date!!

  14. The T's from LL Bean are GREAT. They *are* think enough not to show a single thing, and then necklaces and armholes are modest, but not...Amish. They're just classically appropriate. My own issues with the fits at Bean's is mainly about the bottoms just not working on my figure. That said, I do live in Maine, and I appreciate not only their Bean's classic styles, but also, their investment in our state. I am thankful to have found other sources for pants and skirts that aren't the "If I Had A Pot of Gold" prices in NYC department stores, but who are cut more consciously of my hips and thighs.

That said, another piece I would like to recommend from Bean's are their shoes and outerwear. I know that Janice (I am seriously going to start calling her, "Janice, the Great and Powerful" after the Oz movie reference) loves to show us her exceptional finds to mix in with LL Bean clothes. But, please know, as you peruse the site and the catalog, their coats are fantastic and their shoes and boots are extremely comfortable, durable and surprisingly stylish.

Merci pour tout ce que vous faites, Janice!

  15. Thank you so much Janice - Living in Zimbabwe I have been dying to see how you put together the "warm weather clothes" as they appear so much more casual when shown on their own than your own wardrobe ideas, but with your amazing talent for accessorizing you transform them into something special. Just what I needed. Thank you for thinking of us in our warmer climate!
